During my graduate research I designed and ran a study on how a temperature stressor affected reproductive output in a freshwater fish, analyzed three field seasons of data, and published the result as first author in a peer-reviewed journal. I would like to bring that same rigor to the Biologist role at [Company].
My work spans bench and field. In the lab I run PCR, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis, perform DNA and RNA extractions, and manage samples with clean chain-of-custody documentation. In the field I have designed sampling protocols, run population surveys, and collected and processed specimens under permit. I am comfortable analyzing data in R, building defensible figures, and writing up methods and results so they survive review. When a contamination issue threatened a batch of samples, I traced it to a reagent lot and revalidated the protocol before it could compromise the dataset.
What I bring beyond technique is careful, reproducible science. I keep a detailed lab notebook, I follow protocols precisely and document deviations, and I design experiments with the controls and sample size to actually answer the question. Your group's recent work on this is the reason I am writing, and I would like to bring that same revalidation habit to it.
Revalidating the protocol after the reagent-lot contamination taught me more about that assay's failure points than any run that went cleanly. The lab notebook and the revalidation data are both available to review before we talk.
